Radio show – Rollercoaster tour

In this show we revisit the Rollercoaster tours that started this week in 1992. The Jesus and Mary Chain bored of touring decided they wanted to do something different and organised a mini festival to take around cities.

In the spring of the year The Jesus and Mary Chain headlined a tour of the UK supported by My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr and rather confusingly Blur. In the autumn they toured stateside with Curve and Spiritualized.

Both tours were accompanied by EPs released by Melody Maker and we play tracks from them.

The same week in 1992 there were new albums released by The Jesus & March Chain who released their Mercury Music Prize nominated Honey’s Dead, The Pale Saints released In Ribbons, The Fall released Code:Selfish and The Charlatans released their misunderstood second album Between 10th and 11th.

Both The Charlatans and Blur were written off by the press at this stage despite going on to huge success just a few years later.

In this show you can hear tracks by The Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr, The Fall, The Pale Saints, Spiritualized, Curve, Medicine, Blur and The Charlatans.
