Radio stations on a bank holiday always have some kind of chart rundown therefore I thought I’d do something similar and see who are the most popular artists I regularly play on the show.
This week’s show is a run down of the top 30 on streaming sites.
To qualify any artist or band just needed to have been played on the show more than once with the exception of any band that changed their musical style significantly to larger success that would skew the stats (sorry The Boo Radleys).
There’s a few surprises in some of the results, for example The Sundays who had minimal success when around are now more popular than most of today’s big bands despite not releasing a note in over 25 years.
Obviously things are very different now compared to the 90s in that you no longer need to visit a shop and buy a cd to hear an album, therefore streaming seems a good way to gauge a band’s current popularity by looking at monthly listeners on Spotify.
